Eric Dier reveals he found out about Joe Hart’s transfer to Tottenham after receiving late night text from goalkeeper

Receiving a late night text may have had Eric Dier fearing the worst, however, the Tottenham man told talkSPORT that’s how he found out Joe Hart was to become his teammate.

The goalkeeper completed his move to Spurs earlier this week, signing a two-year contract with the north London club.

However, Dier knew this was happening just before the deal was done when his former England teammate contacted him to reveal the news.

Dier told Hawksbee and Jacobs: “He messaged me a couple of days ago, it was late at night and he said ‘You awake? Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious!’

“So I called him when he was in the car on the way down, he caught me by surprise!”

The former Manchester City star has landed on his feet joining Spurs having been on the lookout for a new club since his contract at Burnley expired earlier this summer.

He’s suffered something of a fall from grace since his forgettable Euro 2016 and leaving City in the same summer but Dier believes the setbacks Hart‘s had will help the squad.

Dier added: “It’s fantastic to have him, it’ll be a real pleasure to share a dressing room with him again. I always shared one with him at England.

“I’m sure he’ll bring a lot off the pitch just as much as he will on it… the experience and the kind of situations he’s been in as a player.”

Dier, who can play as a defensive midfielder or centre-back, also revealed how happy he is working under Jose Mourinho, revealing that he even the conversations he has with the boss are sometimes in the Spurs boss’ native tongue.

Dier said: “If we’re talking privately then we’ll talk in Portuguese but if we’re with more people then we’ll speak English.

“For me it’s very special, growing up in Portugal and to be managed by him.

“When I was growing up he won the Champions League with Porto and then went to Chelsea and was extremely successful.

“It’s really special being managed by him now.”
