Gareth Bale was filmed by fans playing golf just hours before Real Madrid’s Champions League clash vs Man City.
The 31-year-old was omitted from the Madrid squad that travelled to Manchester for their second leg clash at the Etihad.
Manager Zinedine Zidane told a press conference on Thursday that it was the Wales international’s decision not to play against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Asked if Bale had a future at Real, Zidane said: “I don’t know. Now he is a current player at Real Madrid. That has not changed. He is our player. I respect that and I respect him, like everyone else.
“He preferred not to play. That is the only thing I can tell you. The rest of us are all here, preparing for the game. The only thing we are concentrating on is the game.”
The bitter feud between Bale and Zidane is one of football’s worst-kept secrets. It is well known that the pair rarely speak despite the success enjoyed by Real Madrid over recent seasons.
The forward also has a difficult relationship with the club’s fans, particularly following the incident involving the ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order’ flag during Bale’s time on international duty.
Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito de Jugones obtained a video that appeared to show Bale having a round of golf on the day of the Champions League game.
The clip is only likely to deteriorate his relationship with the club even further but a move away from Madrid does not appear any closer.
