Harry Redknapp insists Chelsea summer transfer spree will not put Frank Lampard under pressure – as he tells incredible story about his determination levels

Harry Redknapp believes Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will relish the pressure to deliver success after a sensational summer transfer window.

So far, the Blues have signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, with moves for Kai Havertz and Declan Rice also mooted.

Speaking on the Weekend Breakfast, Tony Cascarino suggested a poor start to the season would crank the pressure up on Lampard given the financial outlay the club have spent.

However, Harry Redknapp told talkSPORT the former Blues captain is one of the most dedicated professionals he ever had the pleasure of managing.

The former West Ham boss revealed a story about Lampard’s training habits which give incredible insight as to what it takes to make it at the top.

He told the Sports Bar: “I mean, last year people said ‘Well, Frank has had the transfer embargo so he can’t spend the money and whatever he did was okay.’

“But, if you know Frank, nothing fazes him. He really is an incredible character, I’ve said many, many times the way he trained and his determination to become a top player it was incredible really.

“I had never seen anything like it; every day on the training ground he would be out there in the afternoon at about four o’clock in the winter.

“It was getting dark, but he would still be out there in the training ground; practising, practising.”

Having survived a tricky debut season without making a single transfer and managing to navigate the club back to Champions League, Redknapp insists Chelsea fans have plenty to be optimistic about with the new transfers.

“Obviously the owner, Roman Abramovich, looks like he has got the bug again,” Redknapp told the Sports Bar.

“You wondered if he was starting to lose a little bit of his interest at one time; he wasn’t coming and he was always there at one time.

“It really seems as though he is determined to have a go this year, they’ve bought some exciting players, haven’t they?

“Silva, okay he is getting old, but he is still a world class centre half and I don’t think he is finished yet.

“I think there will be a few more coming in so it’s going to be good. They’ve got some good young players as well there.”
