West Ham ready to offload Jack Wilshere despite financial hit and talkSPORT told it’s right move for club and player

Jack Wilshere looks set for an early exit from West Ham – and Ray Parlour reckons it will be the right move for both player and club.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers in 2018 on a free transfer from Arsenal as he looked to revive his career, but he has continued to be beset by injury problems.

Wilshere came through Arsenal’s academy ranks and progressed to the first team, playing 197 times across ten seasons before leaving.

He grew up as a West Ham fan and wanted to return to his boyhood club to get back on track but things have not quite worked out.

In his two years with the Hammers, the midfielder has played just 18 times in all competitions.

The Times are now reporting that West Ham want to get his £100,000-a-week contract off their wage bill by either buying out the final year of his deal or subsidising a move elsewhere.

This means that should another club wish to sign Wilshere but not meet the current wage then the club will cover the rest.

According to Arsenal legend Parlour, a move away from the London Stadium – whatever the finanical hit on West Ham – would suit all parties.

“The most important thing is he needs to play football,” said Ray, speaking on the Sports Breakfast.

“He is 28 years old now. His body keeps letting him down. He had so many horrific injuries when he was such a young player that it has really taken its toll on his body.

Wilshere would be ending his England career if he moves to Turkey, according to Clarke

“You have to be injury-free during your career and he hasn’t had that. He’s been inured probably more months than he has played.

“I’m sure Jack would want to play. I know the sort of character he is. He loves football and it probably really hurts him that he hasnt been able to play over the last three or four years.

“I’m sure there is a solution somewhere along the line where West Ham pay a bit of his wages, someone else will pay a bit of his wages, and then he can play football.

“West Ham will be saving money because if he is not in their plans and playing, you may as well let him go and try to ave yourself two-three millions pounds a year.

“It makes sense to West Ham and it makes sense to Jack.”

Ankle and groin injuries kept Wilshere sidelined from October until the Premier League season restarted in June.

He was named on David Moyes’ substitutes for the final few games and made brief substitute appearances against Chelsea and Norwich.

Wilshere is currently fit and taking part in West Ham’s pre-season training. He will likely stay at the club if an agreement over his contract cannot be reached.
