He received the ball from Manchester United target Sergio Reguilon before cutting in and firing an unstoppable strike in off the post in the 32nd minute.

Fati, who was also starting for the first time for Spain in just his second cap, also won a third-minute penalty, which was converted by Sergio Ramos.

It is another record for the forward who holds youngest scoring feats for Barcelona and in the Champions League.

Ramos completed his brace just three minutes before Fati’s goal as Man City new boy Ferran Torres added a fourth late on.

Fati received a maiden Spain call-up last month after a breakthrough season with Barcelona which saw him score eight times.

Speaking after the Ukraine thrashing, Spain boss Luis Enrique was full of praise for the teenager.

He said: “At Ansu’s age, it would be easy for things to go to his head, but this guy is too mature for that.

“He already knows he’s got to follow the right route – he’s laidback and humble about what’s happening to him.

“That doesn’t mean we won’t have matches when things don’t go so well for Ansu, when he makes mistakes.

“All that simply forms part of his apprenticeship. All the same, his achievements to date are far from normal.”
