Arsenal agreed personal terms with Houssem Aoaur TWO WEEKS ago on a long-term contract.
However, the Gunners remain locked in negotiations with Lyon and the two sides are deadlocked.
The French midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer, with Mikel Arteta desperate to add quality to his squad before the transfer window closes on October 5.
Arsenal moved quickly to sign Willian from rivals Chelsea on a free transfer, with Gabriel also hitting the ground running during a dominant debut win over Fulham.
But it seems as though the Spaniard wants to add even more to his already glistening midfield.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schiara explained on Twitter the 22-year-old has agreed terms on a five-year deal to move to north London.
But he conceded Arsenal have not made an acceptable offer, despite agreeing personal terms, with Arteta still keen to get it done before the end of the deadline.
Lyon sporting director Juninho has said of a possible move: “For now, there is nothing for these players.
“We have not received anything for Houssem.”
The sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa for £20m could have also boosted Arteta’s chance of signing Aouar, but Alexandre Lacazette won’t be moving to free up anymore funds.
Arteta said earlier this month: ”He is really happy here. He wants to continue improving and contributing to the team.
“I know how good he is, the impact he’s having.
“He knows about the competition he has as well with the front players so again he needs to demand himself to be the best striker at this football club the same as the rest and he was very happy to hear that and the way he’s been training and conducting [himself] has been excellent.”
