Arsenal news: Dennis Bergkamp’s son, Mitchel, is handed trial at Premier League side

Arsenal have handed Dennis Bergkamp’s son a trial at the club, according to reports.

Mitchel, a 22-year-old midfielder, has spent the last week at the Gunners’ London Colney training base with the club’s Under-23s side, who are managed by Steve Bould.

He has been a free agent since leaving Dutch second tier club Almere City earlier this year.

Bergkamp scored 122 goals in 425 Arsenal appearances during an 11-year spell from 1995, which saw him lift three Premier League titles.

Goal claim Arsenal are short of experienced Under-23 players having sent several stars on loan and Mitchel is being viewed as a possible option.

Mitchel grew up in London while his father starred for Arsenal, gaining legendary status with the club’s fan base.

If Michel joins Arsenal, he could be joined by Bergkamp Sr, who admitted he would like to return to the club in a coaching capacity.

“When the time is right, I’d love to go back and get a role somewhere,” the Dutchman said back in August.

“At the moment we’re great in Holland. I’ve got a young family and have been out of coaching for a little while now.

“But I must admit, I have the urge to go on the pitch again and help, whether it’s with the technical or coaching staff.

“It might be a bit too early, but you never know. We’ll see what comes my way.

“At the moment there hasn’t been any contact about that, but as soon as I make my decision, let’s see what happens.

“Of course it would be ideal at Arsenal – I spent 11 years there and have a good feeling with the club.”
