The Brazilian, who scored 24 goals last season, set up Spurs’ other two goals as they got off to a winning start in Group J.

The hosts took the lead after 18 minutes as Lucas Moura scored his third goal of the season, coolly slotted home from close range after a fine assist by the aforementioned Vinicius.

It was 2-0 in the 27th minute as Andres Andrade put through his own net, intercepting a cross from Bale which Vinicius was ready to pounce on.

Spurs almost added a third through Erik Lamela before the break, but they had to make do with the two goals as Spurs headed into the break two goals to the good.

The north London side were coasting through the game, but had another debutant in Joe Hart to thank for keeping their two-goal lead intact as the former England goalkeeper produced a flying save to deny Andreas Gruber’s shot from distance.
Lamela did almost get the goal his performance deserved shortly after the restart as he twisted and turned in the LASK penalty box, but his shot swerved wide of the post.

Mourinho’s side continued their dominance and had further chances to extend their through Matt Doherty, substitutes Heung-min Son and Dele Alli, as well as previous goalscorer Moura.

They eventually added a third goal six minutes from the end as Son got on the scoresheet after another smart Vinicius assist to cap off a solid night’s work for the Premier League side.
