Harry Kane brushes off England’s disciplinary problems as Gareth Southgate regrets Reece James red card on ‘outstanding’ debut

Harry Kane denies England have a disciplinary problem after two red cards in the Three Lions’ 1-0 defeat to Denmark on Wednesday night.

Harry Maguire’s season went from bad to worse as the Manchester United defender received two yellow cards inside 31 minutes, before debutant Reece James was shown red for dissent after the full-time whistle had gone.

Although playing with ten for two thirds of the game, England were rightly aggrieved by the defeat which was caused by a hugely soft penalty.

However, James clearly vented his frustration too strongly to referee Jesus Gil Mazano.

Nonetheless, captain Kane brushes off any concerns about England’s discipline. He told talkSPORT: “I don’t think it’s affecting the squad, it’s easy to talk about it from the outside but we’re a very strong unit.

“We’ve spoken about being professional on and off the pitch, we know we’re role models but we’re human beings as well. You learn from your mistakes and you grow from them.”

Meanwhile, manager Gareth Southgate was disappointed by James’ red card, mainly because the Chelsea star had been excellent on his debut.

“I thought he was absolutely outstanding, defensively and in an attacking sense,” he told talkSPORT.

“It should be a debut that he’s extremely proud of.

“He’s ended up with a red card which is totally avoidable.

“I understand his frustrations, we all understand his frustrations, but you can’t cross that line.”
