Karim Benzema was caught on camera accusing Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Junior of ‘playing against us’ in a brief conversation with Ferland Mendy during the 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Video captured the striker in the tunnel urging the 20-year-old ‘not to play’ with Vinicius after Real surprising trailed 1-0 at half time in their Champions League group game.
Zinedine Zidane’s men were poor in the opening 45 minutes and the Brazilian winger took plenty of flak on social media for his performances, with plenty of fans questioning why he started over Rodrygo.
It seems as though Benzema was equally irked by his inclusion and barked several orders to Mendy in French.
Benzema told Mendy: “Don’t play with him. On my mother’s life, he [Vinicius] is playing against us.”
It is claimed by Marca that, while Vinicius was not directly referenced in the conversation, it was the Brazilian who the pair were discussing.
The report goes on to claim that Mendy only passed the ball to Vinicius, who both play on the left, three times during the second half following the conversation.
Real Madrid produced a remarkable fight back to draw 2-2 at Borussia Monchengladbach and avoid losing their opening two games in the competition for the first time.
French striker Marcus Thuram put the German side in command after 32 and 58 minutes.
But Real, who were beaten at home by Shakhtar Donetsk in their Group B opener, were given hope by Benzema three minutes from time.
Casemiro then drove home the equaliser in added time after Sergio Ramos had met Luka Modric’s cross with a towering header.
