Marcus Rashford was been labelled ‘world class’ thanks to a brilliant Champions League cameo.
The Manchester United striker came off the bench to light up Old Trafford with a hat-trick in a 5-0 group stage win against RB Leipzig.
Rashford scored three goals in 16 minutes, while Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial also hit the back of the net in a 5-0 victory.
It was a strong performance from Ole Gunnar Solskjear’s side, with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba linking up well in midfield, Greenwood continuing to impress and Martial opening his account with his first goal of the season.
But it was Rashford who stole the headlines with a sensational performance off the bench on a day his free school meals petition reached one million signatures.
The 22-year-old was labelled a ‘predator’ by talkSPORT pundit Martin Keown, while fans joked he devalued Dayot Upamecano’s price tag with his display against the in-demand Leipzig defender.
And talkSPORT host Jason Cundy believes Rashford’s display proved the young MBE is among the very best in the world.
He couldn’t resist having another dig at ‘overrated’ Neymar, too, insisting he’d have Rashford over the Paris Saint-Germain ace ‘every day of the week’.
“Rashford was outstanding,” said Cundy after the match on Wednesday night’s Sports Bar.
“He’s a brilliant player, he’s a brilliant young man.
“Is he world-class? Yeah!
“I’d have him over Neymar. People talk to me about Neymar, I’ve had this argument for years now, and I’ll still have this argument; give me Sterling and give me Rashford over Neymar every single day of the week.
“Neymar is overrated. I saw the performance last week against PSG, Rashford walks off with the prize and Neymar again is flattering to deceive.
“Rashford tonight, it as a brilliant performance. He’s on the crest of a wave and he’s had a brilliant last few months on the field and off it as well.”
Cundy was also full of praise for Manchester United’s performance as a whole on Wednesday night, and believes the could have hit double figures if they played on for another 15 minutes.
“This is a good side, we were led to believe, and I don’t doubt for one second that Leipzig a good side, but they went. They completely lost the plot.
“Man United were on it – Fred squeezing, McTominay was excellent when he came on – and they were really completely outclassed.
“I’m not a United fan, but credit where credit’s due, in the middle of the park, all over the pitch, every single Man United player was better than his opponent tonight.
“It was an excellent performance, thoroughly deserved and once the goals start racking up, if they played on for another 15 or 20 minutes they could have got to double figures.
“That’s where Leipzig were at, they couldn’t wait to get off the field. They fell apart, United were at it and every time they went forward it felt they were going to get another goal.”
