Said Benrahma scores brilliant goal after ‘illegal’ nutmeg as Brentford get revenge on Fulham in Carabao Cup

Our thoughts are with Michael Hector at this difficult time.

Not because Fulham suffered yet another defeat but the centre-back was utterly humiliated by a fantastic piece of trickery by Brentford star Said Benhrama.

The forward, 25, has been linked with a move to the Premier League. The likes of Chelsea, West Ham, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are all reportedly interested.

And he showed exactly why there’s so much fuss about him with an outrageous piece of skill before calmly slotting the ball home in Brentford’s Carabao Cup triumph over the Cottagers.

Benrahma collected the ball about 30 yards out with his back to goal and while Hector was closing him down.

A mere mortal would have looked to pass to a teammate or maybe would have tried to play for a free-kick – not Benrahma.

Instead, the Algerian just rolled the ball behind him and through the Fulham man’s legs.

Hector, no doubt in a state of shock at this point, let Benrahma breeze past him and the Brentford man beautifully curled the ball into the net.

Below you can see the phenomenal goal by Benrahma, which was so good it was described as ‘illegal’ by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp!

That goal made it 3-0 to Brentford and that’s how the cup tie finished as Thomas Frank’s men advanced to the quarter-finals. Earlier, Marcus Forss gave them the lead before Benrahma’s close-range finish made it 2-0.

It’s also a nice piece of revenge for the Bees 68 days on from their heart-breaking Championship play-off final defeat to Fulham.

Exciting times for Brentford in the Carabao Cup but keeping hold of Benrahma before the transfer window’s deadline on Monday is all they’ll be worried about right now.
