He’s scored 22 goals in 74 games for Red Bull Salzburg, and started this campaign in fine fettle with five goals and nine assists in only 13 matches.

Szoboszlai has also netted three times for Hungary, and he scored the all-important last-minute winner against Iceland last week which qualified the Magyars for the postponed Euro 2020.

A move away from Salzburg is expected soon amid interest from a host of top clubs, including Arsenal.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have already started figuring out how they can structure a deal to sign Szoboszlai, who has a £23million release clause in his Salzburg contract.

Lee Dixon believes there's too much pressure on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to deliver for Arsenal and the rest of the squad must start chipping in with goals and assists

The report states that the Gunners would prefer to pay Szoboszlai’s release clause in three yearly instalments – which is unusual as such clauses are traditionally triggered with one upfront payment.

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, hopes to add a creative midfielder to his squad as soon as possible having missed out on Lyon’s Houssem Aouar during the summer transfer window.

Scoring goals has been an issue for the Gunners this term with only nine netted in their eight Premier League matches, while star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored just once from open play in the top-flight in 2020/21.
