Former Manchester United ace Ravel Morrison makes Jamaica debut aged 27 as Reggae Boyz are defeated by Saudi Arabia

Former Manchester United youth star Ravel Morrison made his debut for Jamaica at the age of 27 as the Reggae Boys were comfortably defeated 3-0 by Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Morrison had been on the radar of boss Theodore Whitmore for some time but his international bow did not go to plan as he struggled to make an impact off the bench in the second half of the clash in Riyadh.

Morrison played for England Under-16s, 17s, 18s and 21s but never did enough to receive a call-up to the senior squad.

The former West Ham playmaker is currently playing at ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands after signing a contract with the club in September.

The Reggae Boyz showed plenty of rust in their first outing since COVID-19 restrictions led to the temporary stoppage of international football.

Saudi Arabia took the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after goalkeeper Dwayne Miller spilt Salem Al-Dawsari’s penalty back into his path for him to tuck home the opener.

Shortly before the interval, Saleh Al-Shehri went on a mazy run past the defence before slotting past Miller in the 44th minute.

And Jamaica’s misery was compounded in the 77th minute when he tapped the ball into an empty net following a well-worked counter attack.

Morrison’s story is one of unfulfilled potential. His talent was lauded by Sir Alex Ferguson but his career fell apart before it even started.

Having turned professional on his 17th birthday in 2010, Morrison ended up making just three senior appearances for the Red Devils and left the club in 2012 without playing a Premier League game.

The list of clubs he has played for is long and includes West Ham, Birmingham, QPR, Cardiff, Lazio and Ostersunds.
