One of the Premier League’s most iconic footballs is being made available to purchase once again on Friday.
A limited drop of 600 Ultimax balls – once at the feet of legendary Premier League strikers Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen – will be available to purchase today to mark the 25th anniversary of it’s introduction.
After three seasons with the Pro Max ball, Mitre stepped up their game by upgrading to the Ultimax in 1995.
The ball was used for half a decade in the Premiership, making it the longest serving ball in English top-flight history.
In the inaugural season of it’s use, Manchester United clawed the title back from the previous season’s surprise winners Blackburn Rovers.
And 25 years on from when the ball first made its mark on professional pitches worldwide, a whole new football generation will get to experience the power of the Mitre Ultimax.
A statement from Mitre read: “The new Ultimax balls are made with the same materials and hand-stitched to the same exacting standards of the original. Each ball comes in its own presentation box with a certificate and is individually numbered. It’s not just a ball, it’s a piece of footballing history.
“As well as being inspired by the original Mitre Ultimax, the design of the new Mitre ’95 apparel range is influenced by 90’s retro fashion styles. Using the vintage embroidered logo mixed up with the Mitre Delta patterned taping.
“The exceptional detail even goes down the care label, which has been reintroduced and exactly the same as the 90’s football jerseys.”
