Liverpool have had a shocker – but Frank Lampard will be smiling as Chelsea players can’t stop scoring on international break

Premier League managers must be squirming behind a pillow watching their players during the international break.

Not only have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny and Matt Doherty tested positive for COVID-19, numerous top-flight players will return to their clubs with injuries.

It was a woeful international break for Liverpool, whose long injury list has only continued to grow over the last couple weeks.

The Reds will now be without Joe Gomez for the rest of the season, while there are also minor problems to Jordan Henderson and Rhys Williams, which will surely leave Jurgen Klopp raging.

Klopp was already furious about the hectic fixture list, and his fears have been realised.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, on the other hand, will be one of the few Premier League managers taking more positives than negatives away from the international break so far.

Despite the Blues suffering an injury to Ben Chilwell during England’s 2-0 defeat to Belgium, the severity of which is yet to be known, the vast majority of their players will return unscathed – and having bagged a load of goals.

After goals for France’s N’Golo Kante and Italy’s Jorginho earlier in the break, Chelsea players ran riot on Tuesday night.

Hakim Ziyech bagged another one, making it three in two games for Morocco, while Callum Hudson-Odoi netted again for England’s Under 21s, his second of the break.

Elsewhere, Olivier Giroud was the match-winner for France once again with two goals during their 3-2 win over Sweden, showing he can still be useful for Lampard despite a lack of starts this season.

And even Mateo Kovacic, not a goalscorer by trade, got in on the act, netting two great goals during Croatia’s 3-2 defeat to Portugal.

Chelsea entered the international break in fine goalscoring form, and if the internationals are anything to go by, they look set to continue it when the Premier League returns.
