Luis Suarez looks set to miss out on a reunion with his former side Barcelona after testing positive for coronavirus while on international duty.
The Uruguay national team confirmed on Monday that Suarez, as well as stand-in goalkeeper Rodrigo Munoz and a staff member, had tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement confirmed that all remaining squad members had tested negative ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier at home to Brazil.
“The Uruguayan football association reports that swab tests have been performed on all members of the National Team, and the players Luis Suarez and Rodrigo Munoz and team official Matias Faral have tested positive for COVID-19, while the other members of the party have tested negative,” the AUF said.
“The three are all in good health and the pertinent measures have been implemented.”
The 33-year-old striker has already established himself as an integral part of Diego Simeone’s side – the only unbeaten team in LaLiga – since joining from Barca on a free transfer in September.
He is Atletico’s joint-top scorer this season alongside Joao Felix with five goals.
Pressed once again on his Barcelona exit in a recent interview with Marca, Suarez said: “I was sad and hurt by the way I left – I already said it.
“But when they close a door, five more open to you where they value my work, professionalism and trajectory. I feel proud.
“Where they did not want me, there was another that wanted me. I found happiness and I’m enjoying this moment now.”
