Man City goalkeeper Ederson has confidently claimed that he’s the club’s best penalty taker.
The Citizens have struggled to find a consistent spot-kick scorer with Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne missing from 12 yards since the start of last season.
De Bruyne became City’s latest player to miss a penalty when he failed to hit the target in a 1-1 draw with title rivals Liverpool earlier this month.
And Ederson, who is regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers with his feet, appears ready to take on extra responsibility.
He said: “I don’t train much free-kicks. I trained penalties and when I played for Riberao I took some free-kicks but that is in the past now.
“That is in the past and we have some very good free-kick takers. Penalties, I am the best penalty taker but I am not chosen to take them.”
In 2018, Guardiola insisted he would never let Ederson take a penalty for his side during a match.
He said: “No, that is not going to happen. Because he’s a goalkeeper, there are other players who can take one, respect for the opponents, respect for the competitions.
“One situation is a friendly, for a shoot-out, maybe he can do it, but during the game, no.”
