Manchester United target Jadon Sancho channels inner David Beckham with stunning free-kick for Borussia Dortmund in Champions League victory

Jadon Sancho underlined why Manchester United spent most of the summer pursuing him with a stunning free-kick in Borussia Dortmund’s convincing 3-0 victory against Club Brugge on Tuesday night.

Heading into the game Sancho had found the net just once in eight games, but the former Manchester City starlet gave a timely reminder just why he is one of the most coveted players in world football.

Sancho’s stunning curling, 20-yard free-kick – with shades of England great David Beckham – put his side 2-0 ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Ironically, Sancho is the first Englishman to score a direct free-kick in the Champions League while playing for a non-English side since Golden Balls himself in October 2005 (Real Madrid vs Rosenborg).

Meanwhile, teammate Erling Haaland broke another record in the same game as the teenage sensation continued his incredible goal haul with a brace.

The Norway international became the fastest player in history to score 15 Champions League goals, achieving the feat in seven fewer games than the previous record holders Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy and former Tottenham forward Roberto Soldado.

Dortmund’s player director Sebastian Kehl called Sancho’s recent downturn in form a ‘temporary phenomenon’.

“Jadon is perhaps lacking a little fluency right now,” Kehl told Kicker. “His natural game is only partially recognisable at the moment.

“But this is only a temporary phenomenon, one that will soon vanish into thin air. It is not a distraction brought on by United’s interest.

“We will have to go through this together. Jadon doesn’t care [about speculation]. We know that he is working on it.”
