Mikel Arteta not worried about being sacked as Arsenal make worst EVER start to a Premier League season

Mikel Arteta accepts Arsenal are simply not good enough right now, but insists he is not fearing the sack.

The Gunners were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates by Wolves on Sunday – their third successive home defeat in the Premier League.

The latest setback leaves Arsenal sitting 14th in the table and with their lowest points tally after ten games of a season in Premier League history.

Unai Emery was sacked a year to the day on Sunday when the club were eighth, but Arteta doesn’t worry about suffering the same fate.

“It’s something that the day I decided to be a coach I know that one day I will be sacked or leave the football club,” he said.

“I don’t know if it’s the day after I sign my contract, in a month’s time, a year’s time or six months’ time. I never worry about it.

“My only concern is to get the best out of the players, give the best possible service to the club and become better and better.

“I know, I repeat, in this profession, one day I will get the sack or leave but I don’t know when that is going to happen.”

When asked if he was concerned by his team’s recent poor run, Arteta admitted: “It is when you lose three games in a row for different reasons at home. I am really concerned, I am responsible for that.

“We have to improve, it is clear it is not near good enough for this football club, and we have to change this dramatically.”

Meanwhile, Arteta revealed that Thomas Partey will be out for a ‘few more games’ having suffered a ‘significant injury’ in the recent defeat against Aston Villa.

“He had an injury very early in the game, he wanted to continue the second half,” Arteta told reporters.

“We knew it was a significant injury. He’s done very well and he’s working very hard, he wants to be available.

“Hopefully we can get him back soon but it’s an area we need to be careful and we need to be protective with the player.

“I don’t think he will be with us in the next few games.”

The latest development means Partey will miss a crucial north London derby against Tottenham next weekend, in addition to matches with Burnley, Southampton and Everton next month.
