Southampton moved to the top of the Premier League table for the first time in their history with a 2-0 win over Newcastle on Friday.
Goals from Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong ensured Ralph Hasenhuttl’s did not miss top scorer Danny Ings, who will miss between four to six weeks with a knee injury, as they leapfrogged Liverpool into first.

And the Saints could not resist mocking US President Donald Trump afterwards.
The club’s official Twitter account tweeted a picture of the Premier League table with the caption ‘Stop the count!’
It was clearly referencing Trump’s plea to stop counting mail-in ballots after Election Day with Joe Biden on course to replace him in The White House.
With the Reds, Leicester, Tottenham and Everton playing this weekend, Southampton’s stay at the top is likely to be brief.
Theo Walcott, who was making his second home debut for Southampton since rejoining on loan from Everton, almost doubled his side’s lead before half-time, but shot wide from close-range.
The hosts could have won by more if it was not for Karl Darlow’s string of impressive second-half saves.

With Southampton failing to find a second goal, there was always fears that Newcastle could snatch a late winner.
And those fears would have grown when VAR chose not to punish Jamaal Lascelles for a rash challenge on Walcott in the box.
However, the three points were sealed when Stuart Armstrong robbed Sean Longstaff of the ball just outside the Newcastle box and fired past Darlow with eight minutes remaining.

Newcastle managed to register just two shots on target, with substitute Joelinton forcing Alex McCarthy into a top save late on.
