Tottenham WILL win the Premier League… as long as Harry Kane stays fit, Adrian Durham declares

The only thing that will stop Tottenham from winning the Premier League title this season is if talisman Harry Kane picks up an injury.

That’s according to Drivetime host Adrian Durham, who is convinced Jose Mourinho can lead Spurs to a first league crown since 1961.

The England striker has made a stunning start to the 2020/21 campaign scoring 13 times across all competitions, while he also has more assists this season any other player in the top five leagues in Europe.

Durham believes Kane has got even better under Mourinho’s tutelage and is adamant that he can play a starring role in a potentially memorable campaign.

“They are top of the table [alongside Liverpool], they score goals and they’ve got arguably the best player [in the Premier League] in Harry Kane right now – he seems to be taking so much on his shoulders,” he said on Thursday’s show.

“What I love about it is he is being asked to do more than he’s ever been asked to do before. He’s been allowed to do more than he’s ever been asked before.

“And when Jose Mourinho came in; I can remember we asked the question on this show will he be good or bad for Harry Kane?

“Well he’s been very good for him as he’s made Harry Kane even better. The only thing I can see stopping Spurs winning the title if is Harry Kane doesn’t stay fit all season – I think it’s absolutely crucial.”

He added: “If you were to put money on it you’re going to say ‘well Harry Kane isn’t going to stay fit all season he just doesn’t do that’. That, for me, would be very, very harsh to say that.

“Nobody would wish him injured surely, unless you’re the most hard boiled Arsenal fan.

“So, for me, a lot rides on that. If he stays fit I think they’ve got every chance [of winning the league]. If they don’t win the title this season, with Liverpool [struggling with injuries] and the truncated season we’ve got.

“The problems they’ve got in scheduling and Chelsea with Frank [Lampard] being so raw in the job and inexperienced, Arsenal are just a joke and Manchester United are never going to win the league.

“Man City have had a shocking start and can’t score goals as well. So what an opportunity for Spurs.”

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood echoed the same views on Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast, insisting that serial winner Mourinho has ‘brainwashed’ the north London side into believing they can win the title.

Tim Sherwood says Jose Mourinho has almost 'brainwashed' Spurs into believing they can become Premier League champions

“He’s found a way with the group of players he has,” the former Spurs midfielder turned coach said.

“He’s bought very well, [Sergio] Reguilon has been a good signing at left-back, but [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg for me has been the best signing. He fits into the style and just protects the two centre-halves.

“Jose has brainwashed his players to believe they have to work to achieve something – they need to win trophies, this group of players.

“When you play as solid as they do, he’s almost brainwashed them into believing.

“And why wouldn’t you believe in him? He’s won 20 major trophies in his career and you’re winning football matches, so then you start believing that this guy is the real deal, he knows what he’s talking about, and why can’t we win the league?

“When we’ve got players like Son and Kane, who are world-class and could probably play in any team in the world, you’ve always got a chance.

“They haven’t played fantastically well this season, but who cares?”
