Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the club’s other senior players have been accused of letting the Gunners and manager Mikel Arteta down this season.
The north London side face entering the Christmas period closer to the bottom-three than the top-six after a dreadful first-half of the campaign.
Arsenal have just four wins from their opening 13 games of the season, and sit 15th ahead of their clash against Everton this weekend.
It’s a huge clash for the out-of-form Gunners, who have faced criticism for their lack of passion, fight and character, as well as a multitude of individual errors that have cost the team.
Their woeful start has also piled the pressure on boss Arteta, with a section of supporters calling for the rookie boss to leave, less than a year after his appointment and just months after guiding the club to the FA Cup.
talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino admits Arteta must be partly to blame for the club’s slide, but insists the Gunners’ big players have to do more.
“Their most experienced players have not particularly played great football this year,” said the Weekend Sports Breakfast host.
“David Luiz, Willian, Aubameyang, Lacazette, none of them have excelled, so you’re relying on a lot of young players to come through and be brilliant.
“I just feel there’s a nervous side to Arsenal when they play.”
Cascarino has also been left quite baffled by Arteta’s tactics, saying the Gunners were an unorganised mess in their last outing against Southampton, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The talkSPORT pundit says Arteta’s men were played off the park at home and was shocked with what he saw, and claims boss is not getting the best out of Aubameyang as the other talented players in his squad.
“With Aubameyang I’m just not quite sure where he’s playing in the front line and where he thinks he should play,” Casc added.
“The two centre-halves at Southampton are giants, and they’re playing balls into Nketiah down the middle and he’s got no chance.
“They defend in huge numbers so it’s a bit of a problem, and the two boys in midfield Ceballos and Elneny were getting the runaround by Ward-Prowse and Romero, they dominated midfield and Arsenal couldn’t get on the ball.
“Every time Southampton had the ball Arsenal got everyone behind it, and then when they broke they inevitably tried to play it out from the back, they’d play a ball forward and they’d be no one up front.
“That was Arsenal… at the Emirates!
“That’s not on, that can’t happen.”
