But first, Burnley and Everton will both be looking to get back to winning ways in the lunchtime kick-off, behind closed doors due to tier 3 restrictions.

The Clarets appeared to have turned a corner before their thrashing at Man City last week and they remain in desperate trouble, while Everton’s fast start has well and truly come to an end with just one win in their last six Premier League games.

Burnley vs Everton: Team news

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has been given the all-clear to return after missing the City game with a concussion.

Neither Phil Bardsley nor Josh Brownhill travelled to the Etihad Stadium, but both are making good progress, while Robbie Brady and Dale Stephens are doubts.

Everton will be without both first-choice full-backs – Seamus Coleman (hamstring) and Lucas Digne (ankle) – for the trip to Burnley so Tom Davies and Alex Iwobi could continue as makeshift wing-backs.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is another long-term absentee.

Burnley vs Everton: What’s been said

Both managers know the importance of starting their hectic Christmas schedules with some much-needed points on the board.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: “We came away from what we were good at and it showed in a heavy defeat [at City].

“We’ve got to get back to what we know we can deliver. The Palace game was a good show of it: working both ends of the pitch well and tying it together with the right work ethic and belief in the middle part of the game.

“At the minute, we’re OK and we want to make sure we get more points on the board quickly because it does align you better with what the rest of the season will behold, hopefully.”

Ancelotti said: “Of course the result was not good against Leeds, but it was an open game. We want to stay attached to the top of the table so it will be important to have a result tomorrow.

“This season, there is a lot of competition in front. We are still in front, we want to stay attached and prepare well for the second part of the season. We are where we want to be in this moment.”

Burnley vs Everton: Match facts

  • Burnley have won four of their six Premier League home games against Everton (L2), winning this exact fixture 1-0 last season.
  • Everton have never kept a clean sheet in their six Premier League away games against Burnley (W2 L4). Only at QPR (7) have they played more games in the competition without recording a clean sheet.
  • No side has scored fewer Premier League goals than Burnley this season (4), while the Clarets have also attempted the fewest shots (83) and shots on target (24) in the competition so far (albeit having played a game fewer than most).
  • Having kept a clean sheet in their opening weekend victory at Spurs, Everton have now conceded in each of their last nine Premier League matches, with only Sheffield United (13) on a longer current run without a shutout in the competition.
  • This game will be Burnley manager Sean Dyche’s 200th Premier League match in charge, making him the 35th different manager to reach that milestone. Only four of the previous 15 English managers to reach the milestone have won their 200th match (Alan Pardew, Roy Hodgson, Steve Bruce and Glenn Hoddle).
  • Burnley are looking to win consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since October 2019, the second win of which came against Everton.
