Curtis Jones backed to make himself ‘undroppable’ at Liverpool like Diogo Jota and keep Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of team

Gabby Agbonlahor suggests there is no reason why Curtis Jones can’t keep his place in the Liverpool team when the likes of Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain return from injury.

Jones, 19, is getting his chance in the Reds team due to an injury crisis at the club – but the teenager has seized it with both hands.

He scored the winner against Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday, sending Liverpool through to the last-16 of the competition.

The midfielder has made 12 total appearances this season, scoring three times, and could get an extended run in the side.

Thiago’s injury problems continue and he’s likely to be out until after Christmas.

Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn’t played this season since picking up a knee injury in pre-season and is unlikely to be rushed back.

With that in mind, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor thinks that Jones could make himself undroppable to Jurgen Klopp.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “They are getting their chance because of all the injuries but in football sometimes that’s when you get your chance and you have to take it.

“It happened to me when I was a 19-year-old. There were a lot of injuries and illness at the time and I got my chance to play, I scored on my debut and I stayed around the first team.

“Players like Curtis Jones scoring last night, if he can continue that form then why can’t he leave out the likes of Thiago when he comes back or Chamberlain.

“This is where you’ve got to take your chance and become undroppable just like Jota is doing.

“You can’t do no wrong can you. If you play well as an 18, 19-year-old you will get another chance because you are young and inexperienced.

“You’ve not got any fear and when you are older you may have a little bit of fear in your game but for those youngsters coming into that Liverpool side they’ve seen others come through and do it like Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“I rate him highly. He’s got that swag about him where he can come into games and take shots form other areas and not be too fussed that Salah is screaming at him for not passing and Mane is screaming at him for not passing.

“I think at a big club like Liverpool you need that bit of arrogance and he’s going to have that great career there.”
