talkSPORT’s Adam Catterall delivers passionate message after Millwall fans boo players taking the knee – ‘You’re either anti-racist, or you ARE racist’

Adam Catterall has criticised the section of Millwall fans who decided to boo the players when they took the knee ahead of Saturday’s game against Derby County.

The Lions welcomed 2,000 fans back to The Den for the first time since February, but the game will be remembered for the pre-match reaction as the players took the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Almost 24 hours after footage of the incident began to circulate on social media, the Championship side issued a statement condemning the supporters who reacted by booing the players taking the knee.

talkSPORT’s Adam Catterall joined Gabby Agbonlahor on the Sports Bar on Saturday evening and, after hearing how the former Aston Villa striker was abused by children as young as 12 at The Den, delivered a powerful statement of his own.

He said: “It’s quite simple for me, the message; you’re either anti-racist, or you are racist.

“There is no grey area, it’s quite simple. You are either racist or you are anti-racist. Pick your side.

“And today, we saw an act of incredible ill-education. Where people are kind of politicising something that is more of a humanitarian movement.

“That’s how I see it.

“I see players taking the knee in a sign of solidarity, altogether as one, for one movement, for one humanitarian message of racial injustice.

“And we want to make that better for future generations. Politicising this is incredibly wrong and people can say, ‘this BLM movement promotes violence in the streets and they’ve defaced war memorials’.

“You’ve mixed the messages all up, you’ve mixed it all up. You’ve confused yourself, maybe because you are looking for something which is not there.

“This is NOT a political message. This is a humanitarian message.”
