talkSPORT host Alan Brazil has questioned why Juventus and Real Madrid would sign Paul Pogba rather than Bruno Fernandes.
Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent, claimed earlier this week the midfielder’s time at Manchester United is ‘over’ with a transfer expected to happen either in January or next summer.
The France international has failed to fulfil expectations since re-joining the Red Devils in a club record £89million deal from Juventus in 2016, and he’s been linked with a return to the Serie A giants along with a move to Real Madrid.
While Pogba has underperformed this year, his teammate Fernandes has scored a stunning 23 goals in just 38 appearances since arriving at Old Trafford in January.
And talkSPORT host Brazil, who used to play for Man United, is dumbfounded by the claims Pogba is a world class footballer.
He said on Thursday’s Sports Breakfast: “I don’t want to hammer the guy. I’ve said what I’ve felt many times on Paul.
“They tell me he’s a great guy, but unfortunately we’ve got a job to do and it’s football.
“If he’s that good a player that everyone tells me… I’ve seen it in spurts, I haven’t seen it consistently to say, ‘this guy is world class’. I’m sorry.”
Former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist believes Pogba should have had a similar impact at United to the one Fernandes has had.
Ally said: “Unfortunately for Paul right now, he can get judged with the midfield player they’ve signed – Fernandes.
“That’s the way you want your signings to perform, score and play.
“You look at the two of them since they’ve come to Manchester United, and clearly there is only one of them that’s started the way [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer would want – and that’s Fernandes.”
Brazil then concluded by asking: “Why wouldn’t Juve or Real Madrid go for Fernandes rather than Pogba then?”
