Arsenal ‘make loan recall decision’ on Matteo Guendouzi as Gunners risk losing impressive Hertha Berlin loanee in free transfer

Arsenal are reportedly planning to recall Matteo Guendouzi from his loan at Hertha Berlin this month.

The 21-year-old midfielder fell out of favour under manager Mikel Arteta last season and the midfielder was sent on a season-long loan to the Bundesliga.

However, following some impressive performances, German outlet BILD reports that Arsenal will recall Guendouzi this month.

It is not yet clear whether Arsenal intend to reintegrate Guendouzi with the first-team to bolster their squad, or sell him before his contract expires in June later this year.

“He is very, very valuable to us,” said Hertha boss Bruno Labbadia. “We are happy that we were able to sign him.

“He’s a very, very good footballer, who has a good sense of space and is technically very strong.

“Even though he’s young, he gives instructions. He is not at all interested in whether he speaks the language.”

Last month, Arsenal boss Arteta was criticised for his treatment of Guendouzi by Trevor Sinclair – who also hit out at the head coach’s man-management skills.

“Everyone talks about how he’s a great coach, but that’s not what makes a manager,” said former England winger Sinclair on talkSPORT.

“It’s your man management skills. You look at Guendouzi scoring over the weekend, and you look at Ozil, he is not contributing to that side.

“So for me, if you’re looking at man management, which is management, he’s not doing that well.

“He might be a great coach, but he’s not managing the players well and he’s not getting the best out of individuals in that squad.”
