Declan Rice transfer: Manchester United to rival Chelsea for West Ham midfielder in summer swoop

Declan Rice is set to be at the centre of a transfer tussle at the end of the season with both Chelsea and Manchester United keen on the West Ham midfielder.

The Blues have been long-term admirers of their former academy player, and Frank Lampard was pushing for his signing last summer only to see a deal for Rice not concluded.

The latest reports claim they will return for Rice this coming summer – but Chelsea will not have a free run at him.

This is because Man United are also keen on the 22-year-old England international, ESPN report.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add a forward, a centre-back and a defensive midfielder to his ranks at the end of the season, with January expected to be a quiet month at Old Trafford.

And the report states that Rice is among United’s targets for that defensive midfield recruit, and the Hammers ace is alleged to be aware of the Red Devils’ interest.

Ray Winstone praises the work of David Moyes and his team at West Ham and says if Declan Rice stays at the club he can become another Bobby Moore

However, West Ham have set a £70million asking price to ward off interest in their most prized asset, while Man United ‘accept Chelsea are in pole position’ for Rice should he decide to leave the London Stadium.

Rice was in Chelsea’s academy but released at age 14, though he remains close friends with Blues star Mason Mount and has long been tipped to return to Stamford Bridge.
