Dele Alli was left out of Tottenham’s squad to face basement side Sheffield United on Sunday amid reports the playmaker is pushing for a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Alli has fallen well out of favour under Jose Mourinho and is eyeing a reunion with his former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino in Paris.
The 24-year-old arrived in north London six years ago in a £5million switch from MK Dons and was widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the country.
His impact under Pochettino was undeniable, with Alli directly involved in 121 goals during his Tottenham career to date.
Spurs reportedly remain uncertain about the prospect of loaning Alli out for the rest of the season, largely due to the fact they have a jam-packed schedule owing to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The attacking midfielder has started just two Premier League games so far this season.
Speaking ahead of the encounter at Bramall Lane, Mourinho suggested Alli was unhappy with his current situation at Spurs.
“In every dressing room are unhappy players,” Mourinho said. “For sure. If any one of us, of my tribe, tells you that in his dressing room are only happy players, I don’t think it’s true.
“Or somebody is so so lucky to have a miracle in his hands. Then you can have [an] unhappy professional and the unhappy professional is the one that is unhappy but feels that his duty is to work, work, work and work.
“And there is the unhappy that believes that it’s not his job to fight and to work every minute for the squad and for the club.
“The question is if I let Dele go without getting a player in exchange and I’m not going to answer that.
“It’s not a question that I am comfortable to answer. Of course, I would know how to answer.
“But I am not ready to answer. I am not ready to make public my vision of the situation.”
