Paris Saint-Germain will NOT look to sign Tottenham’s outcast star Dele Alli in January, talkSPORT has been told.
The midfielder has been linked with a possible reunion with Mauricio Pochettino in the French capital, following his old Spurs boss’ appointment at the Parc des Princes.
Pochettino was officially announced as the new PSG head coach on Saturday, returning to his former club following more than a year out of football.
Reports claim the new boss has already held talks with Dele over a possible January transfer. The England international has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and has made just four Premier League appearances this season.
The player even fueled the fire of the transfer rumours by responding to a post of Pochettino’s appointment on Instagram.
But, according to French journalist Erik Bielderman, the deal is unlikely to happen.
The L’Equipe football writer joined talkSPORT 2 on Monday and claimed Dele is not the type of player Pochettino needs to reinforce his PSG team, insisting they instead require a combative, spirited and hard working central midfielder in the mould of current star Marco Verratti.
And he suggested Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante would be a better fit.
“I don’t believe Dele Alli is the type of player who can really turn PSG from a very good team into a great team,” said Bielderman.
“In midfield they need to find a N’Golo Kante. They need some hard workers.
“Manchester United with Roy Keane, they were a balanced team. Arsenal with Patrick Vieira, they were a balanced team.
“We need that. We only have Marco Verratti and that’s not enough.
“Pochettino is walking in a club where everything revolves around Neymar and Mbappe, that was the main problem. You give the ball to Neymar and Mbappe and expect magic to happen.
“But football is a team sport – where is the style? There was no flavour in the way they were playing. They were not playing positive football.
“The only player who was giving balance to the team was Verratti, when he played he was giving an extra spirit to the team.
“So Pochettino now has to find 11 Varrattis, or 11 players with the spirit of Verratti in the team.”
