Leicester battling Arsenal and host of European clubs for signature of highly-rated Porto midfielder Otavio

Leicester have reportedly made an offer to sign Porto midfielder Otavio, with the Brazilian set to become a free agent in the summer.

The Foxes are said to be battling Arsenal for the 25-year-old, who has two goals and four assists in ten Primeira Liga outings this term.

According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Leicester have put an offer on the table for the playmaker, who can also play on the left or right wing.

Otavio has registered 17 goals and 45 assists in 166 appearances across six-and-a-half years at Porto.

However, AC Milan, Roma, Napoli and Juventus – as well as Arsenal – are also said to be interested in signing the midfielder.

Roma have been instilled as the early favourites for his signature, but AC Milan legend and current technical director Paolo Maldini is said to have spoken with the midfielder over the phone.

On Monday, Brendan Rodgers admitted Leicester have to plan for life without Jamie Vardy.

Rodgers has admitted he is planning for life withou Vardy

The striker turned 34 last week and has been nursing a persistent hip problem.

He will be fit for Tuesday’s visit of Chelsea after coming off late on in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Southampton.

Despite his long-standing hip issue Vardy has still scored 13 times in 19 games this season although Rodgers admitted, like with any player, the club must plan for the future.

He said: “Of course, the backdrop is the club always has to be looking forward and planning forward, not just in Jamie’s position but in every position – it’s something which is an on-going process with every player.

“My job is to maximise the best we can get out of Jamie while he’s here and in my time here hopefully we have shown he is developing and continuing to develop. At that age you can still develop and improve on and off the pitch and he’s consistently showed that to me.”
