Mauricio Pochettino suffers first defeat as Paris Saint-Germain boss with Lorient netting injury-time winner to cancel out Neymar penalties

Mauricio Pochettino suffered his first defeat in charge of Paris Saint-Germain as they were beaten 3-2 by Lorient on Sunday.

Neymar’s two penalties had cancelled out Laurent Abergel’s opener as the French champions looked set to reclaim top spot in Ligue 1.

However, Yoane Wissa equalised with 10 minutes remaining, before Terem Moffi won it for Lorient in injury-time.

Pochettino had won four of his first five matches since replacing Thomas Tuchel as PSG boss at the beginning of the month.

But this weekend’s defeat leaves PSG in third place following wins from Lyon and leaders Lille.

Pochettino, who signed a one-and-a-half-year deal at PSG, could find himself under pressure if he does not guide the club to the Ligue 1 title this season.

On top of that, PSG have a Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona on the horizon.

Pochettino’s son, Maurizio, left Tottenham to join Watford on a permanent transfer on the same day.

The 19-year-old joined the Spurs academy from Southampton in 2017 when his dad was bossing the north London club.

A Tottenham statement read: “We have reached agreement with Championship side Watford for the transfer of Maurizio Pochettino.

“Having joined our academy as a schoolboy, the winger went full-time with our Under-18s in 2017 and featured in the first ever football match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in March, 2019, as our youngsters defeated Southampton in a Test Event.

“Maurizio stepped up to Development Squad level in the summer of 2019 and made eight appearances in the Premier League 2 during the first half of the current season, scoring in a 3-2 win at Blackburn Rovers.

“Everyone at the club wishes Maurizio all the best for the future.”
