The early stages of Timo Werner’s Chelsea career were summed up when he struggled to take a corner properly against Man City.
The Blues suffered a fourth defeat in six matches when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Man City on Sunday.
To add to Chelsea’s woes, Werner’s barren run in front of goal stretched to 12 games.
With two minutes of normal time remaining, the Germany striker, who cost £45million from RB Leipzig in the summer, went to take a quick corner.
However, he failed to even do that when he kicked the corner flag, before making contact with the ball.
Referee Anthony Taylor allowed Chelsea to retake the corner with Mason Mount replacing Werner for the set-piece.
Reports claim Frank Lampard’s Chelsea job is under ‘serious threat’ with club bosses concerned by Werner’s form.
Manchester United legend Roy Keane criticised Werner, along with the Blues’ other forwards, as Lampard’s men were 3-0 down at half-time.
He told Sky Sports: “The attacking players need to show up.
“We spoke before the game, we said they have a lot of quality, but to me they don’t look like they’re up to it. What do Chelsea need?
“They need a miracle to get back into this game. They’ve been shocking, particularly the attacking players.
“They’ve not showed up at all. I’m looking at some of the experienced lads… the biggest criticism I can say to Chelsea today is to me they don’t look like they’re up for it.
“They’re not putting any tackles in, they’re not showing any aggression. You need that, particularly against a good team like City.”
