The scenes interrupted the flow of the cup tie, however, it’s understood the fireworks were done in a show of support to a 15-year-old boy currently in hospital.

The boy, named Khai Whitehead, has been in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a police car in Stockport on Boxing Day, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Below you can see the moment the match was halted.

The match wasn’t one that will live long in the memory but the Premier League side got the job done with Craig Dawson heading home the winner on 83 minutes.

A clash with Doncaster Rovers awaits West Ham in the fourth round, which will be played on the weekend January 23-24.

Get past the League One side and the Hammers will travel to either Liverpool or Manchester United awaits in the fifth round next month.
