Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has helped pay for the funeral of a teenage Villa fan who tragically died in a car crash last weekend.

Mia Craen, 18, was killed on Saturday as she collided with a tree while driving to her family’s new home in Horsham, West Sussex.

And after spotting messages on social media about Mia’s death, the Villa skipper responded by donating £2,000 towards her funeral costs.

Mia’s friend, Rosie Fletcher took to Instagram to get Villa and Grealish involved, writing in a post: “Given that she was a huge @avfcofficial and @jackgrealish fan, we would like to get recognition for Mia and the amazing person she was.”

Grealish then shared the post to his 1.4million followers on the social media platform, posting on his Insta Stories: “R.I.P Mia. Sending my deepest condolences to your family and friends. Please click the link in this bio and donate if possible. So sad.”

The captain also left four heart emojis in the comments, with Villa teammate Louie Barry also responding with a message of support.

Mia’s brother, Finlay, has raised more than £19,000 for his sister’s funeral since launching a GoFundMe page on Tuesday, and also received a personal message from Grealish after the Villa ace donated £2k to the page.

He told The Argus: “Mia would have loved that because she was a really big fan of him, so it’s amazing that everyone’s hard work got the fundraiser to reach him and for him to actually see it.”
