Liverpool have been accused of leaving new signing Ozan Kabak ‘high and dry’ on his nightmare debut as the Reds ‘completely crumbled’ against Leicester.
After an entertaining but goalless opening half at the King Power on Saturday lunchtime, Liverpool deservedly took the lead through a brilliant finish from Mohamed Salah after an outrageous piece of skill from Roberto Firmino.
But that will all be forgotten now after the champions were guilty of an ‘incredible capitulation’, condeding three goals in a mad seven minutes as Leicester turned it around to beat the shell shocked Reds.
There were incredible scenes at the King Power, with Jurgen Klopp’s ironic smiles turning to angry growls on the sidelines as he raged at his players for their disastrous display – including goalkeeper Alisson whose latest huge error gifted Jamie Vardy the Foxes their second goal.
It was described as an ‘absolute shambles of a defensive performance’ by pundit Dean Ashton, who was in the commentary box for talkSPORT on Saturday afternoon.
He said he ‘felt’ for Liverpool’s new boy Kabak, saying he was left completely exposed by his teammates.
And he wondered if Reds fans will ever see the Turkish centre-back ‘ever again’.
“What a big, big mess up this is,” said Ashton, in response to Vardy’s goal.
“From the new man Kabak and Alisson, there’s either no communication or he doesn’t listen to his goalkeeper, they both go for the ball and the ball falls beautifully for Vardy.
“Only Alisson and Kabak are privy to who communicated what in that situation. We would hear something if there was a shout. There are no supporters, so we should hear Alisson from here to leave it, but we didn’t hear anything.
“This was an absolute shambles of a defensive performance in this second half, Klopp was going berserk at his players.
“It’s great from a Leicester point of view, but from Liverpool it’s shambolic.
“It’s just madness, Liverpool have completely crumbled. No organisation, Kabak left completely isolated, it’s incredible to see the capitulation of this Liverpool side in the space of five minutes.
“Liverpool’s goal was amazing from Firmino and Salah, but it’s going to mean absolutely nothing now. They’re shell-shocked, the pace has just completely gone from Liverpool’s play.
“Defensively they are not in a good place whatsoever. It’s really going to frustrate Jurgen Klopp.
“They deserved their lead, but in the face of adversity when you concede the equaliser you’ve got to be so much better as a side to take stock, not just completely capitulate, be out of position and allow waves and waves of Leicester attacks on top of you.
“That’s really worrying, and it’s not going to get any better, they’re not getting Van Dijk back any time soon.
“Kabak’s your new man but will we ever see him again? It was a tough day for him. I feel for Kabak, he’s been left high and dry.
“It’s a worry when your goalkeeper is making so many mistakes, but this was a collective failure.”
