Jamal Musiala scored his first Champions League goal for Bayern Munich at the age of just 17 on Tuesday night.
This makes him the youngest ever Englishman to score in Europe’s premier club competition… or does it?
Earlier this week, it was reported in the Mail that the youngster looks set to snub the Three Lions in favour of playing for Germany.
Musiala was born in Germany, but moved to England and came through the Chelsea academy.
He qualifies for both nations and also Nigeria as a result of his father’s nationality.
Up to now, the promising young attacking midfielder has spent more of his time representing England.
He played for the Three Lions at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and now Under-21 level, but also made some appearances for Germany’s Under-16s.
As he’s not yet been capped for the senior team of either nation, he is still free to choose which one he will represent.
If reports are to be believed, he is heading for Die Mannschaft, but Peter Crouch reacted to his goal in Bayern’s 4-1 win against Lazio by calling for England to ‘get him capped’.
Crouch told BT Sport: “I believe you do [call him up now].
“This kid, he’s 17, we don’t want him going to go and play for Germany.
“I don’t know what his decisions are, where his mind is at the moment – he’s playing in Germany and will have a lot of German people in his ear telling him what to do.
“But why don’t we cap him? Get him in, get him capped and we’ll see how his career grows.
“I mean he’s 17 years of age, to be playing in the Champions League – I think back to when I was 17 I was more interested in my driving theory test at that age!
“It’s an incredible achievement and he’s got a big, big future.”
