What is the biggest win in Premier League history? Man United beat Southampton 9-0 to equal record highest margin

Many teams have come close, but never quite surpassed it.

Tottenham beat Wigan 9-1, Newcastle hammered Sheffield Wednesday 8-0 and Chelsea have done the same to Aston Villa and Wigan.

Manchester United’s 9-0 win against Ipswich Town in March 1995, though, remains a record for the biggest winning margin in the Premier League.

It had only ever been equalled once previously when Leicester beat Southampton 9-0 in 2019.

Now it has been achieved again with United thumping the sorry Saints 9-0 on Tuesday night.

In 1995, Andy Cole scored five goals, Mark Hughes got two, with Roy Keane and Paul Ince getting the others.

Cole was playing in his first season at the club, having joined from Newcastle in January 1995 and ended his career at the club with 121 goals in 275 games for Man United.

In 2019, Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez bagged a hat-trick apiece, with Youri Tielemans, Ben Chilwell and James Maddison completing the set.

And now, in 2021, it was Anthony Martial with two, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James and a Jan Bednarek own goal.
