Arsenal worry as Martin Odegaard is substituted off at half-time of Norway clash after twisting ankle

Martin Odegaard was substituted at half-time of Norway’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Gibraltar to deal Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta a big injury worry.

Odegaard, who has dazzled for the Gunners since joining from Real Madrid on loan in January, twisted his ankle midway through the first-half and Stale Solbakken hooked him off at the break.

The 22-year-old delivered his best display in an Arsenal shirt last weekend as they came back from a 3-0 deficit to draw with West Ham.

But Arteta will now be sweating over his fitness and hoping he was taken off as a precaution as he looks to steer Arsenal to a strong finish in the final third of the season.

Erling Halaand looked concerned for his teammate, who clutched his ankle in agony on the ground.

Arsenal fans are desperate to see Odegaard join the club permanently after his impressive displays since joining the club.

And Arteta made it clear just how impressed he was with his playmaker after the West Ham draw.

“I love talented and creative players who are willing to make things happen,” Arteta said afterwards.

“It’s true that Martin is giving us a different level in certain things we didn’t have.

“He had an incredible performance. I think he was very intelligent the way he read the game. He showed how much he wants to win.

“When everyone was a little bit trembling, he gave us that stability, that composure on the ball and created chance after chance.”
