Declan Rice could leave West Ham in £60m summer transfer if England midfielder impresses at Euro 2020, claims Troy Deeney

Troy Deeney believes West Ham could lose Declan Rice this summer if he has a productive Euro 2020 tournament with England.

The 22-year-old is a key player for both club and country and one of the first names on the team sheet.

Speculation has been rife regarding his future, with Rice’s former side Chelsea heavily linked with the midfielder during Frank Lampard’s spell at Stamford Bridge.

And Deeney believes an exit could still be on the cards this summer if Rice impresses in the showcase tournament, saying he’s a guaranteed starter for the Three Lions.

“Declan is going to be the one that’s going to be the constant [for England],” the Watford striker told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“Not only this season, but last season as well, he’s just grown and grown as a player and a wonderful human being.

“It will be really interesting to see how he does at the Euros and whether that solidifies somebody from the top clubs to go: ‘Right, we’re going to pay the £50-60m that it takes to get him'”.

West Ham have been warned they will face a fight to keep hold of not only Rice, but also his midfield partner Tomas Soucek.

The pair have been hailed as ‘the best midfielder partnership in the Premier League’ thanks to their solid and consistent high-level performances for the Hammers this season, helping the club to fifth in the table and just TWO POINTS off the top-four.

And former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has also told talkSPORT there will be ‘huge’ interest in both players this summer, especially following Rice’s emergence as one of the best young talents in the country.

“West Ham are going to struggle to hold on to them, the two midfielders,” said the Sports Bar host earlier this month.

“If big-money bids come in, West Ham will possibly – unless they are in the Champions League – find it hard to hold on to them.

Declan Rice speaks to talkSPORT breakfast about THAT celebration vs. Tottenham, 'best ever' atmosphere within the club, the impact of Soucek and Lingard, and European football ambitions

“Because huge money is going to come in for those two.

“Soucek has been brilliant; there is not a lot he can’t do! He can win the ball, he scores goals, he’s good in the air, he’s defensively solid… all round they’ve got a little bit of everything, Rice and Soucek.

“They’re possibly the best two in the country, the best midfield partnership. If there’s anyone out there better than those two, there ain’t many better than them.”
