Harry Maguire ‘tells Manchester United to sign Brighton’s Ben White’ as Red Devils captain wants ‘English-speaking’ partner in defence

Harry Maguire has reportedly urged Manchester United to go all out to sign Brighton defender Ben White this summer.

The Red Devils are believed to be on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to bolster his backline ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Several top-flight centre-backs have been linked in recent times, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

However, according to journalist Duncan Castles, despite the long list of linked European defenders, Maguire has informed the club’s hierarchy that he would prefer an English-speaking partner.

Maguire is said to be a big fan of the 23-year-old, who has impressed at the heart of Brighton’s defence this term.

The Seagulls would demand around £50million for White, who excelled on loan at Leeds last season as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

United are also on the hunt for a striker this summer and Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland is believed to be on Solskjaer’s shortlist.

The Norwegian has developed into a superstar since joining the German club in January 2020, scoring 47 goals in 47 appearances.

However, reports on Saturday suggested that United also said to be unable to compete financially with their Premier League rivals in the current economic climate, especially because his £90m buyout clause must be paid in one instalment.

Their crosstown rivals, Manchester City, have already made contact with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola, who is said to be willing to bury the hatchet with Pep Guardiola.
