Steven Gerrard’s side have dominated Celtic as they lead their rivals by 20 points this season.

And hundreds of Rangers supporters celebrated outside their home stadium following the news of the title victory.

Fans were seen packed in together, despite currently being in a third national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A large number of Rangers fans were also seen celebrating in Glasgow’s George Square as the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon urged them to go back home.

She said: “I congratulate @RangersFC on the title win & recognise what a moment this is for fans.

“But gathering in crowds just now risks lives, and could delay exit from lockdown for everyone else.

“If those gathering care at all about the safety of others & the country, they will go home.”

Rangers legend Ally McCoist admitted Gers supporters would be taking their celebrations to another level.

He told talkSPORT: “I’m absolutely ecstatic for everyone involved.

“I am a little bit concerned, though, because you probably saw the scenes outside Ibrox last night after the home game and that was when we hadn’t won the league yet.

“So I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next 48 hours now we actually have won the league! We’re going to have to take the celebrations to a brand new extreme.

“In all seriousness, it’s a tremendous job by Steven Gerrard, Gary McAllister and Michael Beale, which has been a truly remarkable season.

“When you look at the performances, they’ve lost one game, a League Cup tie in the last minute to St Mirren. They’ve won 28 out of 32 league games, drawn four.

“From start to finish, unbeaten so far in Europe, it’s been remarkable. It’s thoroughly, thoroughly deserved and a massive congratulations to everyone.”
