Calls for Jose Mourinho to be sacked as Tottenham manager have begun following their disastrous night in Europe.
Spurs crashed out of the Europa League, losing 3-0 to Dinamo Zagreb to go out 3-2 on aggregate to a team who had their manager sentenced to prison earlier this week.
Mourinho is under increasing pressure following their poor season in the Premier League and failure in Europe will again put him under fire.
talkSPORT had live commentary of the game against Zagreb with Spurs legend Clive Allen calling it a ‘disastrous’ result for the club.
Tottenham supporter Cody was among a host of angry callers on talkSPORT who said it’s time for Mourinho to be axed.
He also suggested Spurs may need to sell Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son to lead a rebuild in the summer.
He declared: “Jose, I do think needs to go. From a result like this, I don’t think he can really recover. It reminds me of when we lost to Bayern last season.
“After that it was done for Poch and there was no way back. Now, and it’s a big, big call, I think that even selling someone like Harry Kane or Son is an option.”
It was a bleak day for Spurs and Sports Bar host Jason Cundy believes they went in with the wrong mentality.
“They played with fear,” Cundy said. “They went into the game not looking to score. Jose is getting worse with the way he sets his sides up.
“You will have thought a 2-0 lead would have been enough with the away side not getting any goals.
“Taking that lead, you felt one away goal would have been enough but it’s fear football.
“He’s getting worse Jose. This is a black day in Spurs’ European performances. It’s right up there with the most embarrassing defeats.
“I don’t know where Jose goes from here. They’ve got the League Cup final. He can win a one off game, he’s proven that this season.
“If they don’t, where do they go Spurs?”
Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle was similarly damning, saying: “It was a disastrous performance, a disastrous result for the club. Spurs were diabolical. Mentally, they got it wrong right through the game.”
Journalist Neil Custis, meanwhile, believes history is repeating itself for Mourinho, who was axed by Manchester United in his previous job.
“It seems Jose Mourinho can only do it in short bursts,” he said on talkSPORT.
“It was the same at Manchester United. His first two seasons at Manchester United were fantastic and then it blows out.
“When he first came first into Tottenham, It looked good and he had a way of playing that brings success. Then it blows out and it looks like the same’s happening again.”
