Liverpool have been declared a ‘club in crisis’ and question marks have been raised over Jurgen Klopp’s future.
Having won the Premier League at a canter last season, the Reds have imploded this term and lost for the SIXTH successive time at Anfield on Sunday – with lowly Fulham the latest team to take three points off the champions.
“There is a crisis at Liverpool,” Perry Groves said on talkSPORT. “They’ve lost all six [home games] and scored two in the last eight at home.
“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is doing his job properly at the moment. He’s not showing leadership qualities.
“He’s not this gregarious character we’ve all seen before when Liverpool were winning.
“This is where you need to show your leadership skills and you’ve got to be an actor.
“If things aren’t going for you yourself, you’ve got to have a different persona when you go into the training ground and when you’re around your players… you’re the one they rub off on.”
Liverpool fans showed their support for Klopp and the club with a banner being flown over Anfield during the Fulham clash, which read ‘Unity is strength – let’s go Reds YNWA’.
However, Groves insists supporters could soon turn on the German – despite him leading them to their first league title in 30 years last season.
And he reckons Klopp could well decide to walk away if he doesn’t feel he has the backing of the fanbase.
He said: “The owners need to sit down with him and say, ‘have you got the desire and have you got the energy to transform this team?’
“Whether it means selling Mo Salah, getting the money in for him and buying and changing four, five or six of this squad around… he’s got to be honest and say whether he has got the desire and energy.
“If he hasn’t then it’s up to him to decide if he goes or not. If Liverpool fans do start turning against him, he’s the sort of manager that will go ‘if you’re not behind me, I’ll go.’”
