Dean Ashton felt Manchester United had no ideas in their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Leicester and their reliance on Bruno Fernandes was laid bare.
The Red Devils crashed out of the competition losing 3-1 to the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rested a number of his key players including Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
The Portugal star came off the bench when they were 2-1 down, but could not inspire them to a comeback.
Speaking after United lost, Ashton told talkSPORT: “There was lots of endeavour but no real ideas and that is an issue. If they can’t counter attack, how do they beat team?
“They have an issue in breaking teams down. If Bruno Fernandes can’t do it then they’re kind of stuck.”
The former Norwich and West Ham striker was also full of praise for Leicester, in particular Kelechi Iheanacho and Youri Tielemans, who were the scorers.
“It was a great performance, they really pounced when they needed to,” Ashton said. “Then I thought they were really composed defensively when Manchester United, the way the substitutes could make a real difference.
“I thought they held firm, had a good shape and there was incredible work rate from everybody in a blue shirt. They deserved it.
“He (Iheanacho) took both of his goals very well. It was difficult that last header because it just missed (Scott) McTominay and he had to make sure he guided it in.
“Good all round performance from him, his link up play was excellent.
“Tielemans – what a player. So calm under pressure.”
