Ally McCoist revealed he asked Roy Keane about the Celtic job, but got a typical reaction in reply.
Manchester United legend and former Hoops midfielder Keane has been strongly linked with the job at the Scottish Premiership giants following the departure of Neil Lennon.
A host of managers have been linked with the role, including recently departed Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and ex-Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe.
But Keane is the odds-on favourite for the job, with the former Hoops man linked with a stunning return to Parkhead.
The ex-United captain turned Sky Sports pundit Keane has not held a management job in ten years, not since leaving the Ipswich Town dugout in 2011.
Keane has yet to comment about the links, publicly at least, as Rangers legend McCoist revealed he saw the Irishman at Wembley last week, with both former players on punditry duty for England’s game with San Marino.
But when he quizzed Keane about a possible return to Glasgow, he got a trademark response from the former midfield hard-man.
On Monday’s talkSPORT Breakfast, McCoist explained the topic of conversation between him and his famous co-workers: “Thursday night I was at Wembley and talking to Lee Dixon and he was excited about his game of golf, Wrighty [Ian Wright] is excited about his golf, Harmy [Steve Harmison] is playing golf.”
But when asked what fellow pundit Keane was excited about, McCoist replied: “He never really let out the bag if it was the Celtic manager’s job or not. I did my job superbly well.
“He effectively ignored me, he just looked at me and said ‘yeah, I’m really going to tell you the answer’.
“You know the world famous stare, I was on the receiving end of it at Wembley on Thursday night.
“And I still don’t know if he’s got the Celtic job or not!”
