Adama Traore struck in injury-time for Wolves to secure a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Fulham.
A victory for the Cottagers would have taken them out of the relegation zone, however, Traore’s first Premier League goal since December 2019 inflicted more woes on Scott Parker’s men.
The Wolves winger fired in a near-post thunderbolt in the second minute of stoppage time to stun Fulham at Craven Cottage.
It was arguably a deserved win for Wolves after they had a goal harshly ruled out by VAR in first-half injury-time.
Willian Jose thought he had finally scored his first Wolves goal at the 12th attempt since signing on loan from Real Sociedad when heading in Daniel Podence’s cross in first-half stoppage time.
However, the goal was chalked off by VAR as Podence’s shoulder was adjudged to be offside by the slightest of margins when being played in by Nelson Semedo.
Jose has had a tough start to life in England as he was brought in to deputise for Raul Jimenez, who is still recovering from a fractured skull.
And the 29-year-old’s barren spell in front of goal continued when he failed to direct Semedo’s free-kick on target in the second minute at Craven Cottage.
Fulham’s first meaningful attack came through Antonee Robinson, whose cross was headed wide by an unmarked Ruben Loftus-Cheek on 28 minutes.
Wolves suffered a big injury blow when Pedro Neto was forced off in the 32nd minute.
Neto has been one of Wolves’ best performers with five goals and six assists in 30 appearances and his potential absence will be felt by his teammates.
Fulham could have leapfrogged Newcastle into 17th place with the Magpies not playing Burnley until Sunday.
But Parker’s side were unable to break down a sturdy Wolves defence with Bobby Decordova-Reid skewing a shot wide in a drab second-half.
Josh Maja and Robinson had half chances late on as Wolves held on for a point.
And then the sucker-punch came when Fabio Silva’s ball found Traore, who dribbled into the box before unleashing a rocket into the back of the net.
Fulham could find themselves six points from safety if results go against them this weekend.
