Chelsea have been urged to re-sign Romelu Lukaku – and help bring out the best in misfiring Timo Werner.
That is the plea from Blues supporter Matt, who believes the Inter Milan striker has ‘a point to prove’ in the Premier League.
Lukaku has scored 44 goals in 68 Serie A matches since joining Inter for £74million from United in 2019.
The 27-year-old striker played just 15 times for Chelsea, before being sold to Everton in 2014, but The Sun says the Blues are keen on re-signing him this summer.
That news will be welcomed by Chelsea supporer Matt, who feels Lukaku could help get the best out of Werner, who has scored just three goals in his last 33 appearances in all competitions.
The Germany striker’s latest sitter came in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday night.
Christian Pulisic headed the ball back into the path of Werner, who directed a volley straight at Thibaut Courtois’ feet from close-range.
The Chelsea fan told talkSPORT: “I would love to see Lukaku come back.
“Personally, I think he’d like to come back because he’s a boyhood Chelsea fan. [Didier] Drogba was his hero.
“He’s also got a point to prove. Not just to Chelsea, but he’d like to prove to people at Manchester United that he is good enough.
“He’s improved a lot since he’s been in Italy. The improvements he’s made under [Antonio] Conte have kind of gone unnoticed.
“His all-round is a million times better. He does very well with [Lautaro] Martinez up front.
“Maybe Lukaku and Werner could be a good strike pairing.”
Only Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals (25) than Lukaku (21) in Serie A this season.
However, Lukaku’s ruthlessness in front of goal looks set to end Inter’s 11-year wait for an Italian top-flight title.
Conte’s side lead second-placed Atalanta by 11 points with five games to play.
