Harry Kane has scan on injury, remains doubt for Tottenham in Carabao Cup final against Man City and possibly Euro 2020

Harry Kane has had a scan on an ankle injury as Tottenham fans face an agonising wait to see if he will be fit for their Carabao Cup final against Man City.

The top scoring Spurs star limped off in the latter stages of Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday.

Now he looks set to miss Tottenham’s clash with Southampton on Wednesday and is facing a race against time to recover for the club’s cup final four days later.

Kane is this season’s Premier League top scorer with 21 goals and is leading the way in the assists charts with 13.

Tottenham were waiting for the swelling on the England captain’s ankle to go down before sending him for a scan.

Asked for an injury update on Kane after the draw at Everton, Jose Mourinho said: “Even Harry doesn’t know much. He just had that negative feeling that brought him out of the game.

“I believe that probably Sunday will be a day to have a different view and to try to anticipate what can happen next week.”

The Carabao Cup final presents Tottenham with a golden opportunity to end their 13-year trophy drought.

But they will take on a formidable Man City side, who will be hurting from their FA Cup exit to Chelsea, and without a permanent manager following Mourinho’s sacking.

Despite Tottenham’s inconsistent league form, Kane has been having an excellent personal season

The Carabao Cup final could also prove pivotal in keeping Kane, who has been linked with a big-money summer exit.

Former Premier League striker Micky Gray believes Kane is too good to stay at Tottenham.

He told talkSPORT: “Harry Kane can’t stay at Tottenham, he can’t stay there.

“He has got to go somewhere he’s got a chance of winning real silverware, and I’m not talking about the Carabao Cup, I’m talking about the big trophies.

“If you’ve got that much talent you should be, and you deserve to be, playing for one of the best teams in the Premier League or anywhere around Europe, he’s that good.

“Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in Europe and he has been for years.

“The rest around him [at Spurs] are not up to his standards and, and I never thought I’d say this, I include at the moment the manager.

“We all keep talking about the ‘big six’ in the Premier League, but Tottenham are on the fringes of that now.

“They’re not going to qualify for the Champions League and if they don’t win the Carabao Cup final where does it leave the squad?”
